How to Extend the Life of Your Wood Fence

Maintaining your wood fence is essential to extending its life.  Staining and regular cleaning are ways to help preserve and keep your fence looking great.

Before staining your wood fence wait at least 90 days to ensure the wood is completely dried.  Staining and reapplying it once a year will help to protect your fence from rotting

Regular cleaning of your fence will also help to keep it looking new and avoid extensive mold and mildew buildup. You can clean your fence with mixture of bleach and water and a pressure washer.  Spray your fence with the solution and let sit for about 10 minutes, be sure to scrub any tough stains and then use the pressure washer to wash and rinse the fence.

Spot checking for mold and mildew will help you to combat the problem before it gets out of hand.

Clearing away leaves and other debris from your wood fence on a regular basis will help to reduce the amount of dirt, mildew and also potential pests like termites from invading it. If you spot any termites it is advised to call a professional before they get out of control.  Borax, a natural insecticide will also help to get rid of termites.

With regular cleaning and staining you are protecting your investment in your home while keeping your wood fence looking great.
